Omg! I was making dinner, and Sianna (my 3 year old) came into the kitchen to put a dress on one of her dolls so I knelt down to help her. Then, she’s like mommy look behind you, “smoke!” I look and my toaster oven was on fire! A tostada set on fire. She saved our life. There was smoke everywhere and a fire in the damn oven. I quickly grabbed her and ran out, the maintenance engineers in our building got it under control but I was shaking! Thank god Sia saw it and could talk!! I keep imagining how much worse it could have been.
-Had she not been able to tell me, or had we been in the other room or god forbid if she was taking her evening bath, and I had run into the bathroom and then we couldn’t get out with no cell phone or anything with us.- I shutter thinking about it.
I know I definitely froze when I saw the fire. All I could remember was reading somewhere to never open an oven door when there’s a fire- cause it will come out. I couldn’t think to unplug the toaster oven at the time. That’s exactly what the maintenance engineer did. I am so thankful for them and their expertise. The Chicago fire department also arrived quickly. This is just a small story to remind everyone on how things can happen quickly, and some helpful hints to help you remember what you can do in case of this type of emergency. Counting our blessings today. 🙏🏽
