I’m a firm believer in this. A smile, a hug, a laugh, an ear that’s listening, an affirming nod, or just a shoulder to lean on can change someone’s day, week, month, year, or even life. 5 years ago, I embarked on a journey that changed me to the core. At 38, my husband and I had been married for 2 years and decided it was time to grow our family. Being completely ignorant to the idea that I may not be able to conceive, this decision led me to a year of self-discovery, self- reflection, inner strength, and the power of belief and prayer. What kept me going were the success stories I read online about women who had struggled, struggled, struggled–and then finally had their baby. I promised myself that when I became this success story, I would post on one of those forums and share my story to help that other woman behind her computer looking for her silver lining. Instead, I decided to take it one step further. I decided to write a book. This year, as my 3 year old went off to school for the first time, I vowed to put my story on paper, no matter how personal or hard it was. I kept thinking, if I can help just one woman who reads my story, my work is complete. I hope you will follow me as I embark on this journey of writing and publishing my first book: a fertility memoir.
